Thursday, WOW what a day. Where do I start on this. Well, I will start with learning an insurance bill called Mandate Lite Health Insurance passed out of the insurance committee last night. It was not easy but it made it out. That was awesome news. First thing Thursday morning we had Pension and Benefits Committee meeting. We had a situation where it was brought up the last minute to change the the KPERS Tier 3 personnel to a Defined Contribution Plan (DC Plan). We tabled that bill until next January. During the rest of the year we will be studying that Plan Design. In the same committee we passed a bond bill to help with the Unfunded Liability on KPERS. We worked 33 bills in the Health Committee. We passed two out of committee and the 3rd was defeated. The Finance Committee passed two bills out of committee with little fan fair. All in all Thursday was a great day. Happy Friday from Topeka.
