Thursday the House of Representatives had a group picture taken on the south steps of the Capitol. The work in committees are stating to increase again. In the Health committee we heard two bills from the Senate and in the Financial Institutions committee was also heard two Senate bills. We will work the bills next week and get them out to the house. The buzz around the house late yesterday afternoon was the KTA/KDOT bill was passed out of committee. We will hear the bill in the Committee of the Whole today which is the whole body of the house. I think this bill will have a lot of debate. I am waiting to see what one person has to say and that is Mark Hutton. Not only is he a Representative in the district next to mine, but he is also a member of the KTA Board. He has not tipped his hand on this bill yet and his words are important as he has intimate knowledge of the KTA and the effects of a possible merging of the two organizations. We will see how it is received in the house. The other buzz was the hearing on the Uncork Kansas bill. It will most likely make it to the house sometime next week. I do not think there is enough support to pass the bill out of the house. We will see on that one as well when it comes before the Committee of the Whole. And of course Medicaid expansion is on everyone's mind. HCR5013 has not been brought above the line yet. The odds by many are that this resolution will not come above the line for a while. It does not appear to have any support. Happy Friday from Topeka.
