Friday was an interesting day. The longer I am in Topeka the more I see why most of our constituents think less of their elected bodies. Yesterday was a prime example. Leading up to Friday the odds were a certain bill would not pass. In fact I talked to a person Thursday night about their opinion on the bill and was told that there would be no support for this bill. Every since the bill was introduced this person had indicated that they could not support the bill. Low and behold Friday morning not only had they changed their vote but gave a speech in support of the bill on the floor of the house. Talk about surprised, I was blown away. I was truly shocked. Now, I will also tell you I would never criticize the vote or question the person about why they voted this way. I believe we all have a right to our opinion and vote. The purpose of this post is not to question anyone's vote or their integrity as I have and will continue to respect this person, but rather it is to show how much arm twisting is done in Topeka to get you to vote a certain way. Oh by the way, it is not the lobbyist that are doing the arm twisting, it is certain people that I would call the establishment that are out their applying pressure to vote a certain way. It is amazing that they will tell you that everyone has a vote and it is up to them to vote their conscience. That is unless your conscience goes against the way they want you to vote. I may not always like what I see, but our form of government is still the best the world has to offer. Have a great Saturday.
