Saturday I had a constituent coffee and it was a good time. We talked about the bills that were heard by the house last week and I explained my vote. After that I felt good as everyone there agreed with my vote. The big topic was the governors tax bill. One constituent brought it up and then they all put in their two cents on the topic. Without a doubt the biggest angst is the sales tax portion of the debate. The people present absolutely are against the continuation of the penny sales tax. In fact one went so far as to say that if I or his senator voted for the sales tax we would not be getting his vote in the next election. The mortgage interest deduction is still an issue with them but the sales tax garnered the most stern response. I like having these meetings as I really get a feel for what the constituents are thinking. Sunday afternoon I caught up on all of my emails. I am completely caught up with the constituent emails and phone calls. I talked with 3 constituents about their concerns and had two ladies call Sunday afternoon to talk about legislation that is pending in the Children and Seniors committee which I am a member of. Happy Monday from home in Wichita.
