A bill coming out of the Commerce committee is on my radar and will be watched closely. It is HB 2027. It is a substitute bill for HB 2085. A lot of people had heard of 2085 and there was very little support for the bill. It got so much negative press that the committee decided to ditch the bill and come out with a different bill called HB 2027. It still limits the items that teachers can negotiate. The first bill only allowed negotiating on salary. This bill has 5 items a teacher can negotiate instead of the current 30 items. As far as I am concerned this bill is not any better than the first bill. In fact we received a letter from USD 259 and they are not saying anything good about the bill. Although they are not attacking the bill, they are asking the legislature to be cautious when looking at this legislation. I wonder if anyone is listening. Read between the lines, they are asking that we not support this bill. I will not be supporting this bill.
