Wednesday was an eventful day at the Capitol. It started off with bible study at 7 am. I needed that as it gave me strength for the day. At 9 am I had my first Pension & Benefits committee meeting. This committee deals with KPERS. This session we will be working on a fix to the situation KPERS is facing and that is under funding. At 11:30 am we went to the Taste of Kansas. It was held at the Ramada Inn and it was every conceivable type of food you could eat. Now anyone that knows me knows I love food. Diane, you would be proud of me, I did not over eat and one Representative said "Dan whats the deal, you only have healthy food on your plate". The afternoon brought the first meeting of the Health and Human Services committee. We will be working on a lot of different issues in this committee. Now comes the fun part. I and two others took my first bill to the Revisor of Statute office to put it in bill form. That was exciting but it made me run late to the Governors office for a meeting with 10 of us Freshman Representatives. As I entered the Governors conference room I apologized for my lateness. After the meeting was over I apologized again and he was gracious and said "you were doing the peoples work, that is okay". That brings me to a point, I have heard a lot of people talk bad about Gov. Brownback, I have come to the conclusion that if you have never met him and just read or hear about him in the paper or tv you have been duped by the media. I can tell you for a fact, if you rely on the media you get their opinion only and not fact. This man truly cares about the people of the State of Kansas. I will spend more time later on this I am sure, but don't believe everything you read. Last night I attend the 10th amendment dinner. It was long but it sure was worth it. The speakers talked exclusively about states rights. I set be Rep. Dennis Hedke and John Todd both from the Wichita area. I can tell you I was exhausted by the time I got back to my apartment last night. Happy Thursday from Topeka
