Thursday started with a prayer breakfast at 7 am. There was a nice gathering of House and Senate members present.
Thursday was a day that we really started looking at issues in committee. In the Children and Seniors committee we heard from KDHE Secretary and Aging Secretary. They talked extensively about KanCare and how it will be implemented in their departments. In the Health and Human Services committee we had several presenters on the expansion of Medicade through the PPACA (Obamacare) law. The cost to the State is going to be more than what most people think.
I met with two ladies from Wichita and Garden City for lunch to learn about a proposed bill to take away the requirement for Nurse Practitioners to have an agreement with a physician. This bill will be brought through the HHS committee. As this comes up I will explore its possibilities. I would like to hear from people in my district that have an opinion on this matter.
My first newsletter has been posted on my website. Please go to www.danhawkinskansas.com and click on the newsletter tab and read through what all happened this week. Happy Friday from Topeka.
