Tuesday was an interesting day. HB 2023 a bill that requires public union members to make PAC contributions by check has caused a huge stir in the teachers union. I have probably received 300 emails. It is interesting that when you call a teacher and ask them what they think the bill does they don't really know. They just received an email from the union and were told to send this email to your representative or senator. Then you get the call from a constituent and they yell and talk hateful to you. They tell you that you don't know what you are doing and make attack after attack. Do they really think attacking me is going to get me to vote the way they want. I would say they need to think about that before sending that email or calling and chewing me out. When you get an email and the first line says you are demonizing teachers, well that is not a good start and it usually does not get much better. That is the life of a public servant. You have to take the bad with the good. Today is going to be equally as interesting as we hear this bill in the Committee of the Whole. I am sure tomorrow I will be able to report on this one.
