I left the House Republicans retreat early yesterday to attend my Uncle Chet's funeral. I have been to quite a few funerals and each in its own way touch's my heart. But this funeral I must say has touched me in a more reflective way. We as people touch others each day with our actions or words in a positive or negative way. Most of the time we do not know the outcome of what we do. I especially loved the way the preacher described my uncle. He used 4 words. "Farmer", my uncle was a farmer from Clay Center. He was proud to be a farmer and let others know about it. "Family", he was proud of his family and made the most of every minute he had with his family. "Friend", everyone around him considered him a friend, church friends, social friends, farmer friends, Lyons Club friends, friends at the Senior Living Residence where he lived. He was filled with friends. "Faith", most importantly he had a strong faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was not afraid to share his faith. The preacher said this and his son Gary also told me this. "He was homesick for heaven". In his last days the preacher asked him what he wanted him to pray and Uncle Chet said he would not be going back home and lets pray this doesn't take long (may not be an exact quote). He was homesick for heaven and he wanted this last sickness to be brief so he could go home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus. If there are four words that define your life, I can not think of any better four words. Leave in Peace Uncle Chet, you are now home with your father.
