Monday, all I can say is WOW what a day. The day started with a meeting we call Calendar and also a Caucus meeting. Little did we know that when the day started we would receive presentations from former US Senator and Pro Basketball player Bill Bradly. He also made presentations to the Pensions and Benefits Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committee. He and a professor from MIT were here pitching a new type of Defined Contribution plan for KPERS consideration. It was an interesting presentation but what followed later on in the day was truly interesting. Who would have thought the administration would immediately start an intense lobbying effort to get the Pension and Benefits committee to adopt their high level concept. Because I could not make it to the Lt. Governors office they sent a representative from the Governors office to find out my temperature on the concept. The person wanted to know right now if I supported the concept. I liked pieces of what I heard but they could not give any answers to cost, design, UAL or most other questions. So, how can you be expected to support something that they cannot give answers to. Well, that is another example of how the ball was fumbled. It is a good idea to have your house clean and in order before trying to sell your house. We worked on the Pensions and Benefits committee until 7 pm last night. What a day. Happy Tuesday from Topeka.
