Saturday I was home in Wichita and had a Constituent Coffee. We had 19 people at the coffee and it was a very productive meeting. We talked about KPERS and the items being worked on in the committee, we talked about Common Core the system being used in place of No Child Left Behind. We talked about the 2nd amendment and what is being done in the legislature this year. The second amendment was certainly a hot topic. We spent quite a bit of time talking about the Mortgage Interest Deduction and Property Tax Deduction. The Mortgage Interest Deduction and Property Tax Deduction discussion certainly raises the blood pressure of the attendees. Needless to say I think without a doubt everyone is against the Governors proposal to do away with these deductions. We talked a little bit about the penny sales tax and the Governors proposal to keep it in place instead of letting it sunset. There was certainly a consensus that it should sunset. Will be heading back to Topeka soon. It was a busy weekend at home with not much down time. My family as certainly sacrificed a lot for me to be a part of the legislature. Happy Sunday from home in Wichita.
