Saturday I had my first constituent coffee. We had 15 people attend and they were an absolutely super group of people. There was no anger or hostility. People simply stated their position and we then talked about it with a back and forth dialogue. We talked about the Bills HB2023, and HB 2085. We discussed the Judicial Selection of Judges. We talked about the merger of KTA and KDOT. We talked about HB 2066 the Physical Therapist bill. Lastly we spent some time talking about the Mortgage Interest Deduction and the Property Tax Deduction. Everyone present I believe had a chance to talk. The group had reservations about changing the judicial selection process. Some were concerned about merging KTA and KDOT. All were against taking away the Mortgage Interest Deduction and Property Tax Deduction. The teachers present were against the vote on HB 2023. I explained my vote and then they voiced their concerns. But they did it in a way that was neither threatening nor anger toward my vote. I really appreciated their concerns and we talked through them. I am looking forward to our next constituent meeting. I especially want to thank Less Grauberger a constituent and good friend for setting up the meeting and serving as moderator. He kept us on track and made good use of our time. I also want to thank Dennis Woodcox for helping tear down after the meeting. It was a great time and this is what representing my district is all about. Happy Sunday from home in Wichita.
