Monday was the swearing in ceremony. I have to tell you, setting there watching everyone being sworn in was an emotional time. Once my turn came it was a thrilling moment. Everything me and my family had worked for over the last 7 months culminated in this one moment. The one thought that came to my mind as a tear dropped out of my eye was, I wish my dad was hear to experience this with me and my family. He was with us in spirit. If you have lost a parent you know what I am saying. If you still have your parents, make every moment count and cherish them. Make memories, don't take them for granted as one day they will be gone. Diane, Hannah and Hayley were all with me. We at lunch at La Siesta which is owned by a friend of mines family, Art Alcala's aunt owns the restaurant. If you want some really good Mexican food, go to La Siesta. We went to my Capitol office and looked it over and then they went to the gallery area to get a seat. After the ceremony we went to an awesome reception with some great food at the Celtic Fox. Then about 6:30 Diane and the kids had to head home. It was hard seeing them go. I miss them a lot already.

Today we start the day off at 8 am with an orientation with the Governor and all the cabinet secretaries. We will hear from each of them and listen to the areas their department covers. At 10 am I will have my first committee meeting, Children and Seniors. At 11 am will be the House Session. At 12 pm will be the Freshman caucus organizational meeting and lunch. At 3:30 I have the Financial Institutions committee meeting. We top off the day with 3 receptions starting at 4:30 pm and going to 7 pm. Then back to my room and work on the next day. Happy Tuesday from Topeka.
