Friday was a short day at the House this week. We Freshman had a breakfast at 7 am with the Speaker of the House. It was a meeting where we could ask questions of the leadership. I felt like that was a necessary meeting as we had a lot of questions. Some questions were policy questions while other questions were questions about where to get information to help in decision making. The Speaker is available most mornings in his office. However, we have so much going on that it is hard to go to his office at 7 am to ask questions. So, the meeting was good. We had the House session at 8 am followed by the Republican Caucus meeting at 8:15 am. At the caucus meeting we learned about the Gannon vs. Kansas education law suite. This issue will be dealt with this session from many fronts. The appropriation committee will be dealing with the money issue. The education budget committee will be working on there side of the issue. I will keep you informed as more information is available. One issue I must work on is communicating with my district. I met with one of my constituents this morning and he is going to help me in setting up 4 Saturday morning coffee sessions. I look forward to this aspect as it is so necessary to hear from the people of the 100th District. We will be off on Monday due to the Martin Luther King holiday. I will be going back to Topeka around noon on Monday so I can spend some time in my Capitol office and get caught up with no interruptions. That is hard to find time like that during a day of session. Happy Saturday from home in Wichita.
